Efficiency at the highest level: the Ecodesign Directive and EN 50598-2
IAt a time of rising energy costs, a product’s energy efficiency is a key decision-making factor for any business. A Lenze i510 frequency converter fully complies with the requirements of the European Ecodesign Directive. The device intelligently adjusts the power supply in partial load ranges to match actual demand. If, for example, a fan is running at only half power, the i510 frequency converter precisely adjusts the output frequency and output voltage, which drastically reduces power consumption compared to mechanical throttling.
The basis for this industry-leading efficiency is the EN 50598-2 standard (now incorporated into the international system standard IEC 61800-9-2). This standard assesses not only the individual components, but the efficiency of the entire system (consisting of the drive and motor). Proven compliance with EN 50598-2 gives you, as a plant engineer, the assurance that you are investing in resource-efficient and sustainable technology.
Optimal design and cooling: seamless integration into the control cabinet
Space in an industrial control cabinet is usually very limited. The design of the Lenze i510 is specifically geared towards saving space: with a depth of just 130 mm, the unit is extremely slim. The reduced width and optimised height result in what is known as the ‘book-size’ design.
This compact design allows for gap-free installation in the cabinet (zero-clearance). You can place a very large number of frequency converters directly next to one another in the control cabinet without a horizontal gap being absolutely necessary for cooling. This enables the use of smaller enclosures for your cabinet, which in turn reduces the costs of control cabinet construction. If there are a large number of units in the control cabinet, pay attention to the total thermal load. If each frequency converter is operating at full load, the air conditioning in the cabinet must be designed accordingly. Careful planning allows cables to be laid in a clear and organised manner and increases the service life of the individual drives

If a fault occurs during operation, the fault log in the Easy Starter provides immediate clarity. Reading out the diagnostic log saves valuable time during troubleshooting. With the Easy Starter, you can achieve record-breaking commissioning times and significantly reduce your costs through lower labour costs and downtime.
Full control thanks to smart accessories: the Wi-Fi module and more
A particular highlight when it comes to quick commissioning is the smart Wi-Fi module. This plug-in accessory creates a temporary, local wireless network. The technician can connect directly to the drive on site at the machine using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
This enables wireless and secure diagnostics via the Easy Starter software or the corresponding smartphone app. The Wi-Fi module is the ideal tool for quick service work directly on the open cabinet, without the need for time-consuming cable routing. You can read live motor values, test interaction options or install an update – all with maximum flexibility and user-friendliness. Together with the keypad and the USB module, Lenze ensures that you have the perfect tool to hand for every maintenance situation.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about the Lenze i510 frequency converter
1. What exactly is the difference between the 230V and 400V models?
The 230 V models are designed for use on single-phase AC mains supplies (typically in the range of 230 to 240 V), which are commonly found in commercial settings or in self-contained compact machines. The inverter internally generates the regulated three-phase current for the electric motor (in delta connection) from this single phase. The 400V models, on the other hand, require a three-phase mains supply. This is the absolute standard in industrial environments, as it allows significantly higher power consumption to be achieved efficiently.
2. What criteria should I use to determine the right size for my motor?
The mechanical shaft power in kilowatts (e.g. 0.75 kW or 1.5 kW) is often used as a rough guide when selecting a product. For engineers, however, and for an accurate, reliable design, only the rated current (in amperes) of the motor is decisive. The rated current of the frequency converter must always be greater than or equal to the rated current of the motor to be connected. You will find these exact values on your motor’s nameplate.
3. When is an i510 frequency converter with CANopen/Modbus a good choice?
These network-compatible versions are essential if the drive is to be controlled automatically and closely monitored by a central control system (PLC). A digital communication protocol significantly reduces the amount of analogue wiring required per unit, enables convenient remote parameterisation and generates comprehensive diagnostic reports.
4. Is the inverter also suitable for variable-speed pumps and fans?
Yes, these are prime examples of where the i510 really comes into its own. In fluid-handling equipment such as pumps or fans, energy consumption decreases quadratically as the speed is reduced. The variable-speed drive optimally adjusts the output voltage and frequency. Compared to a system that runs continuously at full load and is mechanically throttled, this can result in huge savings on energy costs.
5. Can I run the Wi-Fi module continuously inside the closed cabinet?
An industrial metal control cabinet acts as a Faraday cage and provides significant shielding against radio waves. The Wi-Fi module is primarily designed as a practical service tool for temporary diagnostics and commissioning on site with the control cabinet door open. For permanent, closed data transmission within the cabinet, we strongly recommend wired solutions such as the CANopen protocol or Modbus.
6. Does the i510 frequency converter meet current efficiency standards?
Absolutely. The i510 frequency converter is fully compliant with the stringent Ecodesign Directive and meets the high system efficiency requirements set out in EN 50598-2 (or, more recently, the updated and current standard IEC 61800-9-2). This ensures your eligibility for subsidies and low operating costs..
7. How many i510 frequency converters can fit side by side in a cabinet?
Thanks to the optimised shape (book-size design) and the ability to mount units directly side-by-side (zero-clearance feature), you can arrange the units in the cabinet completely flush against one another. The exact number per row on the mounting plate depends solely on the physical width of your enclosure. When planning for a large number of units, simply ensure that the total thermal load (dissipated power) in the control cabinet is safely dissipated by suitable fans.
8. How do I obtain the Easy Starter software for commissioning?
Easy Starter is Lenze’s official and essential engineering tool. The current basic version can be downloaded directly from the manufacturer’s official portal. You can then easily establish a secure connection between your PC and the i510 frequency converter using the optional USB module or wirelessly via the Wi-Fi module.
9. Do the prices shown on the page include or exclude VAT?
As our specialist product range is primarily aimed at commercial customers, plant manufacturers and engineers, all prices shown for the items are net prices. Statutory VAT is calculated transparently in the shopping basket based on the quantity selected and the current delivery terms, and is only shown separately at checkout..
10. How do I integrate the device securely into my control system?
The i510 frequency converter offers a wide range of connection options for cables. You can wire enable signals, fault acknowledgements or speed setpoints directly via the standard digital and analogue inputs and outputs. For deeper integration into safety systems or complex automation setups, we recommend using the versions with an integrated network protocol.
